Anti Gravity Magic Ketchup Trick

Amazing but incredibly easy trick, where you command a ketchup sachet to rise and fall, inside a bottle at your command with a simple hand motion. Very visual and amusing levitating trick.

You Will Need: A clear plastic bottle such as one that has been used for soft drinks or mineral water. You will also need a condiment sachet, these are usually found in fast food outlets.

Method:

1) Take the label of the bottle so as to make the contents clearly visible.

2) Fill the bottle, near to the top with cold tap water.

3) Insert the sachet into the bottle, it should float at the top of the bottle.

4) Holding the base of the bottle, as if to steady it, apply gentle squeezing pressure to the base. The increase in pressure inside the bottle should cause the sachet to float slowly downwards. Releasing the grip on the bottle will allow the sachet to float upwards.

5) To make the sachet stop in the middle of the bottle, you need to apply just the right amount of pressure, this can be found with practice.

The beauty of this trick is the audience are completely unaware of the technique as their attention is drawn to the motions of your other hand, beckoning the sachet to rise and fall. Add an interesting line of patter and you have a great impromtu levitation trick that is easy to set up and can be used in a wide variety of places or as a pub trick.

Cough Cough David Blaine Card Trick

This trick requires a lot of practice and is for intermediate magicians Performance: The magician has a card selected and signed .The card is then shuffled into the pack by the spectator and it is the magicians job to locate it. Unfortunately the magician cannot seem to get it right, but after a few attempts, the magician seems to actually regurgatate a tightly folded card. It is the spectators card, with their signature. Preparation: You need a pen and a deck of cards . Method: Have the spectator select a card from the deck and show it to the audience. After the card is signed control it to the top of the deck by means of a Hindu Shuffle control or a revolving pass. The deck is now held in the standard dealing position in the left hand ( with the chosen card at the top ) Get a finger break under the top card and palm it with your right hand immediately. Flourish the rest of the deck with a one hand cut, or one hand shuffle with your left hand and offer it to a spectator to simply mix up the cards. Make sure the spectator starts to shuffle because some stubborn people start to look through the deck looking for their card. Then turn your back making this move seem natural to show that there is no possible way that you could know where the card is. At this time you are folding the palmed card into eighths. ( The smaller the better ) This is easy, as your back is turned you can use both hands to do this and then slip the tiny package in your mouth between your cheek and gum. Turn around to face the audience. As the card is folded so tightly in your mouth, you can talk normally. Take the cards and act as if you messed up . Turn over a couple of cards to reveal what was supposed to be their selection. The card will of course be the wrong selection. Do whatever you want, just make yourself look bad. As soon as people start to laugh at you, act as if your hurt, as if something inside of you is wanting to get out. Make the audience curious, and have the suspense build up. As soon as they reach their peak work the card out of your lips and and slowly spit the card out onto the palm of your hand. Unfold it, and watch the audience scream as they see that it is the chosen signed card. It looks as if you somehow swallowed the card beforehand and regurgitated it back up again.

Hot Shot - Blaine Style Card Jump Technique

A card is made to jump out from the deck into your other waiting hand and jump back. This card sleight is awesome, when mastered.

You Will Need :

A deck of playing cards.
A nice bit of patter.

How To Do the Trick :

This card sleight can be used as a trick on its own or used to boost the visual impact of another trick. Just ensure that the card that you wish to "jump" is at the top of the pack ( use your favourite card force to ensure this).

The deck is shuffled while being held, bottom long side of the deck, resting against the fleshy part of the thumb. ie biddle grip.

The spectator is asked to choose a card and return it to the pack. ( This card should be forced to the top of the pack, using your favourite force. )

Hold the deck as seen in the photo. The deck should be held lengthwise between you and the spectator, thumb supporting one lengthwise side and your middle, ring and small finger supporting the other lengthwise side. Your first finger should be touching the short side of the deck, nearest the spectator.

Create some misdirection by bringing your free hand over the deck and appear to be squaring it up. Use this cover to slide your first finger under the top card. At the same time, apply pressure to both long sides of the top card by using your middle finger to push the card against the base of your thumb, causing the card to arch like a bridge

The top card should be pushed slightly further forwards towards the spectator so as to cover more of your first finger. The deck should also be tilted slightly downwards to hide the fact that your forefinger is under the card.

Straighten your first finger quickly. This will release the sprung top card which should jump into the air into your awaiting other hand.

The card can be made to jump back to join the deck in your other hand by repeating the spring move with one card ( much easier) . Press long sides of card with thumb and middle finger. Curl first finger underneath card and straighten first finger when you wish the card to jump

String Magic Trick

A version of this trick was performed by David Blaine.

Effect: The magician is seen to roll some thread into a ball in his fingers.

The thread then appears to be placed in his mouth and he appears to swallow it.

The magician appears to be in pain, when he bares his stomach and visibly pulls the thread out from it.

Items: Thread, two pieces of the same coloured thread.

"New skin" latex clear paint for covering cuts and grazes or other brand of latex paint. This liquid paint is normally available from pharmacies.

Method: You need to paint a one to two inch square area on your stomach with the latex. When it dries you can pull it gently away from the skin to form a pocket.

Place one piece of thread in the pocket, leaving a small piece sticking out.

Cover the latex pocket with make up to match the colour of your skin.

The latex pocket can alternatively be made by attaching a piece of skin coloured latex that has been cut from a halloween mask. This could be attached by using the latex paint as glue.

The performance is done by the magician rolling one of the pieces of thread into a ball and then pretending to place the thread in his mouth, retaining the thread between his thumb and finger. Then he pretends to swallow the string.
Remember, in the interests of safety, do not put the string in your mouth. The small ball of string retained between the thumb and finger will not be noticed by the spectator and can be easily discarded out of sight.

The rest of the trick depends on acting the pain enhancing the illusion that the thread has pushed its way through the magicians stomach.

The thread can then be pulled from the latex pocket.

Two Card Monte Card Trick

This card trick requires a lot of practice and is for advanced magicians Effect : (This is the card trick that was performed on the David Blaine special and requires a complete mastery of the double lift) The magician shows the spectator, the queen of diamonds on top of the deck. He then tells the spectator to hold the queen face down between his fingers. The performer then shows the next top card, the other red queen. After several fast sneaky switches of the cards, the spectator is told to guess which card is where ? When he turns over his hand, he realises he is holding no aces at all. Preparation: This trick is done with a regular set of cards Before performing the card trick, put the black ace on the bottom of the pack, preferably the ace of clubs, it is less conspicuous. On the top of the deck, place the queen of diamonds, then the ace of spades, then the queen of hearts. Performance: With the deck set up as above, first show the spectator the (actual ) top card. Tell them to hold it between their fingers, face down. Then tell them to look at the card they have, so they are sure that there was no fancy moves in play. Using this as misdirection, prepare to double lift the next two cards once they have looked at their card. Perform the double lift and show them the queen of hearts with the ace concealed. Put the cards back on top of the deck, then remove the ace without showing them the face of the ace. Then pretend to switch the cards, once or twice. After this say " OK Im going to teach you how to do this " This time, perform the " switch " very slowly , actually switching the cards. ( Make sure that they do not look at the ace in their hands ) Then, very quickly, making sure that they do not notice what you are doing take the queen of diamonds you are holding and put it on top of the deck. Then steal the card off the bottom of the deck ( Ace of clubs ) and give it to them. Then ask them to tell you where the card is. After you hear their guess, have them turn over their hand and be amazed.

Effect: A magician walks toward a person on the street and asks if he could demonstrate a quick magic trick. He tries doing the magic trick but then ........his neck starts to hurt really bad. He grabs his neck and starts to sneeze...... . He then sneezes hard and his head jumps down to the middle of his body. While one hand is holding his head, the other holds on to his jacket. The magician then pulls his head back to the normal position above his shoulders. The magician then calmly walks away.

Preparation: Get a black shirt, lay it out on a surface and carefully cut it with scissors so that it has a V shape cut down to the middle of the chest area. Then you will need a jacket and another black shirt but don't cut the second shirt ! You will also need a long metal coat hanger. ( See photos at bottom of this page )

Get Ready : Put on the first ( the uncut one) shirt on..Then put the cut shirt on, on top of the uncut one. Next, on goes the jacket. Now get the coat hanger and lay it out flat so that it looks like a long rod. ( Make sure that the hanger reaches from shoulder to shoulder ). Grab the rod shaped coat hanger and and put it between the cut and uncut shirt, so that it looks like you have big tough shoulders.

Performance : Outside in an area with a potential audience around, approach someone and ask them if you can do a simple magic trick. While you are trying to do the trick, you suddenly get a neck ache you then reach back with your left hand and grab a hold of your jacket collar (and the rod shaped coat hanger ).Then pretend to sneeze ! harder and harder ! on about the fourth sneeze, you pull your jacket up by pulling on the coat hanger rod and push your head down through the V shape in the prepared cut shirt. You then pull your head back up with your right hand. Remember to keep hold of your lowered head with your right hand.

1) Cut V shape along white dotted area.......2) Squeeze coat hanger into rod shape.

3) Insert coat hanger under cut shirt.,,,,,,,,,,,.4) Pull coat hanger to give impression that head has lowered.

David Blaine performed this extremely effective trick where a coin was bitten and a piece torn off.

The coin was restored when the missing piece was seemingly spat out at it.

This trick was used using a very cleverly engineered coin which is available from good magic suppliers and is switched for the spectators coin.

Ace Shake Trick

This trick was performed in David Blaines second special where he made the spectator sign a card, the card was put back in the pack and was made to appear from between two aces. This page will show you how to do a great version of David Blaines card trick. Secret: Give the spectator, the two red aces and tell them to hold them. Fan out the deck and tell the spectator to touch a card. Square the deck up leaving their card stuck out to be signed and shown. Now you secretly put the card into " palm position " when you square up the deck so you can easily palm the card when you want to. It must stick out of the lower corner of the pack meeting your inner thumb . Let them sign the card and then hand them the deck, secretly palming their card. After they are convinced that the card is well lost in the deck, ask for the two aces and sandwich the face down palmed card between the aces, showing only the aces face up. Tell them to hold the deck openly and start to shake the aces directly over the pack, tell them to watch their card rise from the deck into the two aces, shake a little more loosely and watch as to their amazement, their signed card appears from between the aces .

David Blaine Style Mental Magic Mentalism Tricks

A Selection of mental trick observations and ideas that you can improvise on.

1. “Think of any card” it's a wild guess but a spectator will almost always think of the Nine of diamonds, Ace of spades, Queen of Hearts or the Six of Clubs. Have each of those cards hidden on you in different pockets, remember which card is where so that you can reveal the hopefully chosen card.

2. “Pick a number between 50-100 with even and different digits.” Answer: 68.

3. “Pick a number between 1-1,000” Answer:333

4. Fan a set of cards with one face card and the 4H in the center, nine times out of ten the spectator will pick the four because it's in the center and it appears uncommon. (i.e. 7C,AD,4H,KH,9D) . Have a duplicate 4H, already slipped into the spectators pocket and ask them to check the pocket after they have hopefully selected the 4H from your cards.

5. Borrow a coin from someone, secretly switch it with an already bent coin that you had in your hand and have them hold your coin in their hand.Tell them to concentrate and imagine that the coin that they are holding is bending. When they open their hand to examine the coin, they will think that the coin has bent while in their hand. Tell them that they have they have bent it with their mind! Just stick your coin in a vice and bend it previously to performing the trick.

Say some Blaine like things to help your magic such as: “Let me show you something strange, I'm going to try something, I've never done this before, It's bizarre, Do you (Did you) feel that? That's crazy, That's scary, Can I try something with you?”

Coffee To Coins David Blaine Style Trick

David Blaine changed a cup full of coffee to a cup full of coins on his TV show

Set up: Get one of those coffee machine dispensed cups made of waxed paper and preferably with a pattern on the outside. Remove the bottom of the cup about an inch up from the bottom with a modelling knife or scissors and then place the cup back together by gently sliding the top half of the cup into the base using a slight twisting action if needed. Stack the cup three quarters full with coins.

Pack the coins in tightly and then pour in a little cold coffee, enough to cover the coins completely.

Coffee works best because it's so dark and will hide the coins. The cup should now look like a normal cup of coffee and is now ready to present to an audience.

Performance: Comment on how the patterns on the side of the cup are magic symbols.

Holding the top half of the cup with one hand, gently push up the bottom half of the cup with a slight screwing action with your other hand, then shake the cup.

As the coins “unsettle” the coffee will spill between the cracks and the coins appear.

This trick can be done with any cup of the waxed paper type that are usually found in vending machines. Be careful not to use hot coffee. Take care when using the modelling knife as it is sharp, even better, if your a kid, get an adult to cut it for you.

This trick uses a very clever gimmicked coin where the middle of the coin, temporarily opens to let the cigarette through and later closes so that the hole is virtually invisible to the spectator.

This coin is available through good magic suppliers and is a great addition to any magicians collection.

Fly Resurrection

By Kieth Crabtree This trick is of medium skill level Effect: You are walking down the street and casually pick any spectator. You ask them to come with you to a nearby car and pick a dead fly off the windscreen. You hold it in your hand do a few passes with the other hand and appear to be really concentrating and the fly slowly comes back to life to the surprise of the spectator. Preparation: Freeze the fly Method: You need to catch a fly and freeze it which puts it in a temporary coma, this can be done by swatting the fly hard enough to immobilise it then placing it in a small container in the freezer. The fly then needs to be quickly taken to a suitable windscreen IN THE SHADE and placed there. It is important that the car is in the shade to prevent the fly from defrosting too quickly. Then go and find a spectator and take them back to the car which should appear to be randomly picked. The heat of your hand will revive the fly which should soon start to move. A lot of this trick is in the actions of you reviving the fly. It may be necessary to practice how long it takes for the fly to revive itself. Freezing the fly as quickly as possible with dry ice is a better way of freezing the fly as because it is quicker it causes less damage to the fly.

This trick appears to be like hypnotism - Is your patter good enough to convince them ?

Ask your friend if you could try a little "instant hypnosis" on them. Assure them that it's safe and nothing harmful can or will happen.

Next, ask your friend to fold their hands together, weaving the fingers and clasping them tightly. After a few moments of doing this, tell them to raise their two index (first) fingers so they are sticking up and they should be about an inch apart ("church and steeple" kind of thing).

Now, slowly move your hands over their hands (don't touch their hands) and say, "Your fingers will touch. Try to fight it, but they will still touch!"

Slowly, but inevitably, your friends fingers will start to move together. Tell them to concentrate on their fingers (just ham it up, okay?) and soon their fingers will touch.

This is self-working, but it should still be practiced! It's a great bar trick, to. Have fun!

Street magic style trick where an ordinary playing card instantly changes into the spectators chosen card in front of his eyes.

Effect: A spectator chooses a card, looks at it and returns it to the deck. The magician then boasts about about how sensitive his fingertips are and about how he can find the spectators selected card by feeling the deck. He then riffles his fingers across the sides of the pack a few times and removes a card from near the middle of the deck. The magician then proudly announces that this is the spectators card and shows it. The spectator announces that it is not. The magician then asks the name of the spectators card and when told, the card he holds visibly switches to the spectators chosen card.

Method: Have a card selected and controlled to the top. (Methods of controlling cards and forcing a card can be found in this and other sites or magician sleight books at your local library) Now remove one card at random from the middle of the pack. While showing this card and asking if it's the correct one, get a finger break under the top card with your left pinky. This is easily done by holding the deck in the left hand in position for dealing and pushing the top card out with the thumb getting your little finger under it and then squaring the cards back up.

When the spectator has very happily informed you that you are wrong, lay the card face up on top of the pack. Square up the cards and remove the top two cards as one. You now have what amounts to a double faced card. When removing the card(s), take it palm down between the middle finger and the thumb with the forefinger resting about the middle (Fig 1). When you wish to make the card change, move the forefinger next to the thumb and make the card bend away from you (concave). You can now almost grip the one corner between thumb and forefinger. Release the corner with the middle finger and let the card snap around! (Fig 2) You will need to turn your hand a little, as well. Exactly how far you will need to turn your hand, will come with experience from practicing the trick. The two cards keep together really well after a little practice.

To polish off this jewel of a trick, drop the card(s) back on top of the deck and take the top (face up chosen ) card and place it on the table, then cut the deck. This will ensure that no one can check if the card had been a double faced one.

Fig 1 : Holding the double faced card(s), press the centre of the card(s) with your second finger, the side of the card held by your middle finger should be allowed to slip free and the card(s) snap round to be held between your thumb and middle finger.

Fig 2 : The double faced card(s) (are held between thumb and middle finger. They should stay together with practice and be seen by the spectator to be one card. Practice holding hand at slight angle to hide other side of card(s)

Hindu Gypsy Thread

Effect: Performer takes a spool of thread, unravels about a foot of it, & then breaks it off, putting the spool down. Performer proceeds to break the thread into 6 or 7 clearly broken & different pieces, then holding one piece in one hand, the other pieces are rolled up into a ball and 'squashed' onto the piece from the other hand. When this is unravelled it is seen to be completely restored to it's original length. VERY visual, & very clean, pretty easy to do as well. Here's the routine.

Preparation: Only practice & you need a spool of cotton thread, preferably brightly coloured. It has to be cotton, otherwise you will need scissors to cut it. Or you could do a burned & restored thread.

Performance: First, before you approach the spectator, unravel about a foot and 1/2 to 2 foot of thread. Now make a tiny ball of thread out of the extra thread you have, so you should have a ball of thread, then a foot of thread (still on the spool). The ball is tiny enough to fit, unnoticed, into the fleshy part of your thumb & index finger when they are pressed together. Now there should be a couple of inches of thread, then a ball (hidden)(all in your right hand) then a foot of thread & then the spool (in your left hand). Now approach the spectator. Break your foot of thread from the spool, & give them the spool to hold.

It looks like you are holding a foot of thread, when really, thanks to the ball you are hiding between your index finger & thumb (right hand), you have more like a foot & 1/2. Break the 1st piece off, now the piece in your right hand looks like a 5 inch length. Thanks to the hidden ball it is a foot long (your restored thread). The pieces in your left hand can be broken as many times as you like, clearly show the thread to be broken. Now, by rubbing your (LH) thumb & index finger together, make a ball of the pieces of thread and 'squash' the 5 inch thread from your RH onto the ball, at the same time, tucking the ball so it's hidden between your index & thumb (LH). Now the ball you have been hiding the whole trick is visible, it looks like the ball you just made out of the broken thread. It can be unravelled & is restored. Give it to the spectator as a souvenir.

As far as patter goes you can pretty much say whatever you want, I'm sure you will anyway.

David Blaine's Arm Twist 360 Degrees Revealed

Here is a Free Street Magic Trick for you! On an episode of David Blaine's TV show, David Blane tries to get a spectator to rotate his arm (while copying David) 360 degrees. The spectator cannot rotate his arm like David as David turns it 360 degrees right in front of his eyes. Though this illusion was made famous by David Blaine, it originated with the magician Shinkoh and has been around for quite a while.

The Magic Effect
Asking a spectator to copy your actions, the spectator will attempt to rotate their arm like yours in a 360 degree circle. To their amazement, they can only rotate it a tiny bit while you rotate a full 360 degrees right in front of them.

Preparation For The Illusion
All you need is just a long sleeve shirt pulled all the way down to your hand.

Secret Method Fot This Illusion
The secret to this illusion is to distract the spectator while you set up your hand correctly. Rotate your right hand clockwise until your fingers are pointing towards your body. This probably will be uncomfortable (at least it was for me!), but the more you practice and stretch, the easier it gets. Plus, the effect is well worth it! Twist a bit more while your fingers are touching the surface (the table if you are doing it there, or the ground). And now you hand should be pointing to the left. When in position, you should have now twisted your hand about 270 degrees CLOCKWISE until its facing the left.

The key to doing this is not letting your spectator know that you are twisting your arm like this. A good way to do this is to put your hand down like his pointed to the left, then distract him. You may distract him by saying something like "your doing it wrong, do exactly what I am doing" or "maybe you should move a bit to get a better view" then push him with your free hand and set your arm up while he is distracted.

Now start your rotation, and have him start his, twisting your arm COUNTERCLOCKWISE. His will stop after a short bit, but yours will keep going! All the way around. After you finish, there is added moves and effects you can do to twist even more in front of the spectator. I recommend you purchase Shinkoh's Twisting Arm Illusion that covers all of these methods.

Spirit Writing Mind Reading Trick

An entertaining routine where the audience are impressed with your mind reading skills

Effect : The magician is seen to write something down on a paper note pad and does not allow the spectator to see what he has written. The magican announces that he is about to ask the spectator a question and because he can read his mind, already knows the answer that the spectator will reply back with. The spectator is then asked to think of a number between one and a hundred or a simple shape such as a triangle, square or rectangle and reveal this out loud. The note pad is then shown to find that the magician had written the same number or shape down on the note pad!

Method : Make a gimmick by taping a small piece of broken pencil lead to your thumb, ( Use clear adhesive tape such as Sellotape so that the spectator and audience will not see it and remember to keep the sticky side facing out ). Initially write nothing on the note pad, ( only appear to be writing something ) and when you hide the face of the note pad from the spectator, do so with your thumb facing the side of the paper that you had supposedly written something on ( See picture 3). When your victim says the number or shape that they have thought of, simply write it on the note pad with your thumb and then show it to them as your prediction.

This trick is really convincing but depends a great deal on the magicians performance. Try your hand at acting, look as if you are really concentrating and that the trick requires real mental effort on your part. This will reinforce the illusion that you really can read minds.

Effect : The performer asks the spectator to pick a card without him seeing the face and replace it in the pack.

The pack is then shuffled and the performer is apparently unsuccessful in locating the card.

After a few attempts, the cards are thrown against a window in a fit of rage. On looking at the window, the chosen card is seen to be sticking to it, even more surprising is the fact that the card is on the inside of the window.

Preparation : You will need two identical packs of cards and a willing helper.

Method: This trick should be performed in an area with a large window nearby and with the spectator facing away from the window.

The spectator is asked to choose a card from a pack, memorize it and without showing you, replace the card in the pack.

The pack is then shuffled and and a couple of attempts at "is this your card " tried followed by a look of disbelief when the spectator tells you that it is not their card (this is all part of the act as you don''t even need to know the card).

After a few attempts you fake an angry outburst and making sure the cards are squared up throw the pack broadside at the window, where they will hit the window and fall to the ground, except the chosen card which is sticking to the window.

Your helper was already positioned behind the window and spectator and had an identical pack of cards. He was able to see the chosen card and took the duplicate from his pack.

A small piece of looped sticky tape or magicians wax was attached to the duplicate card and it was stuck to the inside of the window.

The helper should then have walked away from the window.

This trick creates a real surprise but it is important to pick up the fallen cards quickly and to pocket the original chosen card.

This sweet trick is a real reputation maker

Trick Effect And Routine: Tear a corner from a bag of M&Ms. Pour a few M&Ms into your hand. Then reseal the bag by magically melting the corner back onto the bag.

Magic Trick Preparation: Place a few M&Ms into your" thumb tip"( This is a useful gimmick which can be purchased cheaply from most good magic shops) .You will also need to cut a corner off a different bag of M&Ms.You can place this in your thumb tip or just conceal it behind the bag. This trick is easier to perform if you sharply crease the corner on the bag that you are supposed to rip.

Method: After you show the bag of M&Ms, discreetly slip the plastic thumb tip off your thumb and conceal it behind the bag in your hand (opening facing the corner to be ripped). Remove the extra corner from the thumb tip. Fold the creased corner towards you as you act out the magical illusion of tearing the corner. Pour out the M&Ms from the thumb tip. Secretly replace the extra corner inside the thumb tip as you unfold the creased corner. Use a rubbing motion with your forefinger and thumb to give the impression that you are melting the corner back on the bag.

Slip the thumb tip back on your thumb and your done. Hand out the bag for examination! The patter is up to you, but you can tell a story of a candy crook who never gets caught or use your imagination to come up with some other interesting story with a sweet ending.
